HEALTHY HUMAN FOODS FOR CATS
Raw or Cooked Beef, Chicken and Turkey
- Because the transit time through a cat's intestines is relatively short, cats are unlikely to develop salmonella or other kinds of food poisoning from raw meat, according to veterinarian Lisa A. Pierson, a noted feline nutritionist. Raw bones will not splinter if chewed. If you cook the meat, remove the bones.
- For a real treat, defrost some frozen, uncooked shrimp for your cat.
- Most cats love turkey, chicken and beef fresh from the delicatessen department. Meat with added flavoring or preservatives is not good for cats.
- Milk gives some cats diarrhea. But if your cat can tolerate it, a little saucer of milk will be a healthy treat.
- Most cats enjoy a saucer of meat baby food. The label on the jar will state whether the food contains onion or onion powder.
- In addition to onions, never let your cat eat chocolate, cooked bones, apricots, cherries, peach pits, almonds, apple seeds, avocado, grapes, raisins or macadamia nuts. Just a tiny amount of alcohol, coffee or tea can be lethal to cats.
